Dr. Matthew J. Patterson Superintendent, Bethel Park School District

Dr. Matthew J. Patterson is Bethel Park School District's 13th full-time superintendent, bringing nearly three decades of public education experience and a strong commitment to instructional excellence and community engagement.

Prior to joining Bethel Park, Dr. Patterson served as Executive Director of Secondary Education and Instruction for Fox Chapel Area School District, where he provided strategic oversight of middle and high school programs serving more than 2,200 students and 180 educators. His career also includes seven years as assistant superintendent in the West Jefferson Hills School District and leadership roles in the Corry Area School District.

Dr. Patterson's expertise spans curriculum and instruction, data-informed decision-making, federal programs, and fiscal stewardship. He has led large-scale initiatives in literacy, mathematics, and science achievement while maintaining a steadfast focus on equity and student success.

Known for his collaborative leadership style and transparent communication, Dr. Patterson emphasizes relationship-building with board members, staff, families, and community partners. His "people-first" approach centers on what is best for students through thoughtful planning and shared ownership.

Dr. Patterson holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Learning and Leadership from Gannon University, a master's degree in educational leadership, and a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He maintains a Pennsylvania Superintendent Letter of Eligibility and has been actively involved in regional and national professional organizations, presenting on topics including literacy instruction, data use, and educational innovation.
