Independence Middle School lockdown lifted; threat deemed non-credible following K9 search

Independence Middle School has resumed normal operations after this morning’s lockdown was lifted.

The school was placed under lockdown after an anonymous Safe to Say tip indicated an IMS student may have brought a weapon to school, which also prompted a brief lockdown at Bethel Park High School. The Bethel Park School District Police, Bethel Park Police Department, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, and City of Pittsburgh Police Department investigated the tip, and multiple K9 units searched the building. No weapon was found, and the threat has been deemed non-credible.

The investigation remains active. IMS will follow normal dismissal procedures. Please do not call or come to the school before dismissal. Thanks again for your patience and cooperation.
