Two BPHS students recognized by National Merit Scholarship Program

Bethel Park High School seniors Caleb Crawford and Nevinka Silva Ratnayake have been named Commended Students in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program, joining approximately 34,000 students nationwide recognized for exceptional academic promise.

The honorees placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.3 million juniors who entered the competition by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. While Commended Students do not advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, they remain eligible for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

"Caleb and Nevinka have earned this recognition through years of dedication, intellectual curiosity, and hard work," said Bethel Park High School Principal Dr. Racquel Sutton. "We are incredibly proud of them and excited to see everything they will accomplish."

The National Merit Scholarship Program, founded in 1955, is among the nation's most prestigious academic recognition programs. About 16,000 of the top performers were named semifinalists earlier this month.
