Bethel Park School District canceled classes Friday after severe weather caused significant damage throughout the community and left all three school buildings without power.
The district announced the closure Friday morning, noting that power had not yet been restored in time for the school day to proceed. There will be no remote learning.
"The safety and well-being of our students and staff will always be at the heart of every decision we make," the district said in a statement.
The cancellation comes during what would have been the district's first full week of classes for the 2026-27 school year — a particularly significant week that included the opening of the brand-new Bethel Park Elementary School.
School is scheduled to resume Tuesday, Sept. 8, following the Labor Day holiday on Monday. A make-up date for Friday's missed instructional day will be announced later.
