Bethel Park High School came alive with music, movement, and food this week as students gathered for the school's annual Culture Day, an event designed to immerse the school community in traditions from around the world.
The day opened with a performance by Steel Dragon Martial Arts & Lion Dance, a Lawrenceville-based troupe known for its kung fu demonstrations, traditional drumming, and lion and dragon dance performances. An African drumming and dancing exhibition followed, setting an energetic tone for the festivities ahead.
Throughout the day, students explored more than 20 cultures through hands-on activities, including Ukrainian egg painting, Henna body art, Korean painting, line dancing, Latin American dance workshops, and others. The event also spotlighted the culture of accessibility, drawing attention to the experiences of people with physical and intellectual disabilities.
"Culture Day is a testament to our school's commitment to inclusivity and global awareness," said Tracy Ford, the school’s retiring nurse and the event’s organizer.
Bethel Park High School has long emphasized building an environment where all students feel seen and valued. The late May celebration reflected that mission, giving students a chance to engage with perspectives and traditions beyond their own — without leaving the building.
