Lily Edwards, an eighth-grader at Independence Middle School, earned national recognition in March at the inaugural National Catholic Forensic League Middle School Nationals, held online from New York City.
Edwards competed in two events and advanced to the final rounds in both, placing sixth in prose reading and winning a national title in dramatic performance.
Edwards also competed in a local freshman/sophomore tournament held the same weekend at Seton LaSalle Catholic High School.
The competition marked the first middle school national tournament hosted by the NCFL.
