November Rotary Student of the Month: Boyd Alspach

Bethel Park High School has named senior Boyd Alspach its November 2025 Rotary Student of the Month, recognizing his academic achievement, leadership, and dedication to service.

Alspach, the son of Bonnie and Alex Alspach, has distinguished himself through years of involvement in Scouting and school activities. A Boy Scout with more than 130 nights of camping experience, Alspach recently completed his Eagle Scout project by raising $1,350 and building new storage units for the high school’s Caring Closet, which helps district families in need. He credits his older brother, Gary Alspach ‘22—also an Eagle Scout—for inspiring his own Scouting journey.

Among his most memorable Scouting experiences was a 103-mile canoeing trek at Northern Tier on the Minnesota–Canada border. “It was tiring, but by far my favorite experience in scouting,” Alspach said, recalling breathtaking scenery, intense thunderstorms, and the sense of family his crew developed during the 5½-day trip. He will travel to New Mexico next for a horse-riding adventure.

At school, Alspach boasts a 3.9 weighted GPA. He also serves as a section leader in the marching band, playing mellophone, and performs on French horn in the symphonic band. He has also spent two years in the pit orchestra for the high school musical. “Without music, I don’t know what life would be like,” he said. “The music-making process gives you a sense of purpose and a common goal.”

Alspach is active in community service, including trail cleanups at South Park and volunteering at Cub Fun Day events for younger Scouts.

He is considering studying pharmaceuticals at the University of Pittsburgh or Duquesne University, citing his passion for chemistry and biology. “Pharmacists play a major role in your community,” he said, adding that he hopes to work in a hospital setting ultimately.

Outside the classroom, Alspach enjoys watching football and more active pursuits, such as mountain biking and camping.

Bethel Park High School Principal Racquel Sutton said his leadership, service, and well-rounded involvement make him an exemplary choice for this month’s Rotary honor.
