Every year, Elementary Gifted Coordinator Mrs. Yost encourages her students to participate in an optional community service project of their choosing, and this year Franklin Third Grader Clara McLean accepted the challenge and created a service project to benefit the patients at Children's Hospital.
Clara oversaw a "Clara Care's Play-Doh Drive" for Children's Hospital, and spread the word about her efforts by creating a slide show and flyers that were distributed to all Franklin students. Her goal was to collect 2,000 cans, and in a two month period, she exceeded that goal. In addition to collecting new, unopened cans of Play-Doh, Clara also asked for Play-Doh kits.
She was inspired to do this because of her career aspirations to be a neurosurgeon at Children's Hospital one day. "But for now, I can help the sick kids by collecting Play-Do for them to enjoy while they are in the hospital," explained Clara. "By donating just one can, you can help make a difference!"
Clara will be personally delivering the Play-Doh to Children's Hospital. Thank you to everyone who supported this effort!
