Washington Fourth Graders have formed a Green Team and will oversee a school-wide recycling program for #1 and #2 plastics.
To kick off the project, the Green Team members performed an original Recycling Christmas Party Skit, written by fourth grader Sydney Glover.
The skit was centered around a holiday party and all of the waste created at the party with plastic bottles, straws and bags. The skit included “fun facts” about recycling, including the fact that the average person creates four pounds of trash per day.
Thanks to a grant received from the Pepsico Recycle Program, Washington now has special containers for the plastic recyclables, and the school can earn incentives, prizes and chances to win $1,000 for the school just by doing the right thing and recycling.
In just one month of recycling, Washington students have saved as much energy as it would have taken to operate a laptop computer for one full year! That's 73 kilowatt hours! Recycling matters!
