William Penn First Graders were excited to welcome four members of the South Hills Honor Guard to their classroom.
The four veterans visited around Veterans Day, to talk to the students about the military. The Honor Guard members were impressed with the First Graders' knowledge about the branches of the military. The students were anxious to learn about the countries the veterans visited while they were serving.
The Honor Guard explained why November 11 is annually celebrated as Veterans Day in America, as well as what the Honor Guard does at the funerals of deceased veterans and active military personnel. And they showed the students how to properly fold an American flag.
The students especially enjoyed seeing videos of two Black Hawk Helicopters flying over Heinz Field before a recent Pittsburgh Steelers football game.
Thank you, Honor Guard, for your service and for sharing your time with the students! Please click here
