Violinists Clara McGough and Samantha Wolf have each earned recognition on the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Honors Orchestra. They are under the tutelage of Orchestra teacher, Mrs. Stephanie Glover.
Six other instrumentalists, under the direction of Mr. Chad Thompson, have been selected to the PMEA District 1 East/West Honors Band, including Anastasia Bogachenko (flute), Willow Hernishin (clarinet), Braden Lloyd (percussion), Becky Mack (oboe), Brady McKiernan (horn alternate) and Bekah Tupper (horn).
The students, who each submitted their performances virtually due to pandemic-related restrictions, were selected for the highly competitive ensemble among high school students who auditioned from across Southwestern Pennsylvania.
The selected students will perform alongside other elite student-musicians and before guest conductors on Sunday, Nov. 21, with the Honors Orchestra performing at 3 p.m., at Fox Chapel High School and the Honors Band’s program beginning at 4 p.m., at North Hills Middle School.
The top-performing student-musicians from this ensemble will advance to the PMEA’s District Band performance later this school year.
