McClaine Excels in International DECA Competition

Thirty-four students from Bethel Park High School recently competed in the first-ever, virtual, DECA International Career Development Conference. The multi-week competition was held from April 12-30, with students submitting papers, completed tests and delivered presentations.
Thirty-four students from Bethel Park High School recently competed in the first-ever, virtual, DECA International Career Development Conference. The multi-week competition was held from April 12-30, with students submitting papers, completed tests and delivered presentations.
 
Senior, Christian McClaine finished 6th out of more than 200 competitors in the Restaurant and Food Service Management event. McClaine earned a medallion for having by having one of the top 10 test scores in his event.

DECA is an international organization of high school business students.  The co-curricular club helps prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
 
Some of the major highlights from this year include:
  • Lucia Coccagno served on the PA DECA State Officer Team 
  • 105 Bethel Park High School students served as DECA members
  • 45 BPHS students participated in the 2020 PA DECA District III Conference (Dec. 2020)
  • 28 students placed in the top two at the District Conference and automatically qualified for the State Conference
  • 77 BPHS Students participated in the 2021 PA DECA State Conference (Jan.-Feb. 2021)
  • 48 students placed in the top 6 at the State Conference
  • 40 students qualified for the DECA International Career Development Conference (top 4)
  • 8 students received a medallion for a top three test or role play score in their event
  • 34 BPHS Students participated in the 2021 DECA International Conference (April) along with over 17,000 students from all 50 states, Canada, China, Guam, Puerto Rico and Spain.
