Senior End of Year Information

← Back Print This Article

It is a very exciting time of year when Bethel Park High School Class of 2019 will soon be completing their secondary education. To assist the families during this very busy time of year, we have included a year-end calendar of events that reflects activities which are important to your son/daughter. Receipt of this informational letter does not confirm that your son or daughter has met graduation requirements as mandated by the Bethel Park School District (final satisfactory grades and credits earned must be taken into consideration), but is intended to inform you of the calendar and the responsibilities of the seniors as the school year comes to a close.

Commencement will be conducted in the Bethel Park High School Gymnasium at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. The doors will be opened at 8:30 a.m. for ticket holders (each graduate receives 6 tickets). Non-ticket holders will be admitted at 9:30 a.m.   Seating may be secured on a first come, first serve basis.    Commencement is a very important and solemn occasion and we ask that it be treated as such by our graduates and our guests.

The following guidelines are set forth to assure a memorable commencement for everyone involved:

  • All seniors who qualify for graduation are encouraged to participate in commencement exercises.
  • All seniors are required to attend 2 graduation practices (May 31 & June 3) to be eligible to walk in graduation. (Only the head principal may excuse with prior permission.)
  • Appropriate attire must be worn under the academic gowns. (This will be discussed at a grade level meeting with seniors.) Shorts, sneakers, men’s sandals and blue jeans are not to be worn. Men are to wear a buttoned shirt with a collar and dress pants with dress shoes (neck ties are not required but welcomed). Ladies are asked to wear a dress that does not protrude below the level of the graduation gown. Students will not be permitted to participate if they fail to comply with appropriate standard for such a formal occasion. ONLY NHS & Honor Cords to be worn with cap and gowns (no decorating top of caps, and no other medals or cords issued from individual subjects) at graduation ceremony.
  • Bethel Park High School takes a strong stand with any student who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol or who demonstrates poor judgment or whose conduct is dangerous or indefensible. The school reserves the right to prohibit that student's participation in Commencement, as well as in other various listed functions, and to withhold the diploma and release of academic records until all related discipline and obligations have been served.
  • Special note: If a student demonstrates inappropriate behavior during the ceremony, he or she will be removed from the proceedings and will forfeit the privilege to participate in this event. Appropriate discipline will be administered and the diploma will be held until the discipline has been satisfied.

The graduation ceremony and the various events surrounding the final exercises are the embodiment of student preparation for adulthood and post-secondary education. The significance of this period in the school year cannot be overemphasized. We congratulate you and your senior upon his/her completion of their secondary schooling and look forward to sharing the closing activities with our graduates. Thank you for your continued support. Best wishes to our graduates!

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Zeb Jansante, Principal
