Bethel Park High School senior Jerry Varghese had the opportunity to attend the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University this summer.
Jerry was one of 60 Pennsylvania high school students who were accepted to attend this prestigious program, which was held July 1-August 4.
This program was an ungraded summer enrichment experience in the sciences and mathematics for talented Pennsylvania High School students, to encourage them to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
The program provided instruction in biological sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science, with an emphasis on collaborative learning and team research.
As part of his experience at the Governor's School, Jerry had the opportunity to work with three other students on a project called, "Quantifying the Effectiveness of Noise Canceling Headphones." Attending his presentation were Bethel Park High School Physics Teachers Mr. Cristofano and Mr. Qualk.
