Second Graders Build Bridges Using KEVA Planks

← Back Print This Article

Washington Second Graders participated in a STEAM Challenge as part of their Library curriculum.

They read the story, My Father's Dragon, by Ruth Stiles Gannett, in which the character Elmer creatively uses crocodiles to make a bridge.

The Washington students were also challenged to make a bridge using KEVA planks.   In preparation for the task, the students watched a video on KEVA building basics and listened to the book, Amazing Structures: Bridges by Rebecca Pettiford.

Then they got to the task of working in pairs to design and create a bridge that would span the Wild Island River.

The students enjoyed working together on this task.  The bridge designs varied.  Please click here to see some photos from their work.
