Fourth Graders Go Pumpkin Chunkin'

Franklin Fourth Graders enjoy the challenge of building a launcher to go Pumpkin Chunkin'!

This year 34 students in Mrs. Meucci's, Mrs. Gallaher's and Mrs. Luzader's classes accepted the challenge of building a contraption that would launch a candy corn pumpkin the farthest.

The launchers could be no larger than the top of a desk and had to be constructed from normal items found around the home, such as pencils, popsicle sticks, spoons, boxes, pretzel barrels, clothes pins and tinker toys.

The students gathered outside the Fourth Grade Classrooms to cheer on their classmates as they all got a chance to launch the candy.  The top four launchers were built by:
  • Lyla Paull -- 103 feet
  • Ian Bucheli -- 56 feet, 4 inches
  • Kennedy Peters -- 42 feet, 5 inches
  • Camden Holzer -- 37 feet, 6 inches
Everybody had a great time!  Please click here to see some photos of the students with their launchers.
