Franklin Fourth Grade Teacher K.D. Meucci was named an All-Star Teacher by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
She learned of this recognition via a surprise video conference call, where she thought she was going to receive feedback on the school year from her students. Instead, Pittsburgh Pirates In-Game Host Joe Klimchak and Infielder Kevin Newman headed up a group of individuals, including Pittsburgh Pirates front-office personnel and the Pirate Parrot, Greg Behr from the Grable Foundation, Allegheny Intermediate Unit Executive Director Roseanne Javorski, Franklin Principal Teresa Doumont, Bethel Park Assistant to the Superintendent Dr. Janet O'Rourke and several of Mrs. Meucci's students to congratulate her on this achievement. Normally, the presentation would have been made at a surprise school-wide assembly.
Mrs. Meucci is one of 18 Pittsburgh area teachers selected to receive this honor in 2020. In addition to a certificate, she will also receive a $100 Visa gift card, a VIP Day at PNC Park, including a pre-game ceremony on the field, as well as a $1,000 donation from the PIttsburgh Pirates, the Grable Foundation and Chevron to be used in her classroom.
Mrs. Meucci was nominated for this honor by Franklin Principal Teresa Doumont, who described how Mrs. Meucci uses technology in her classroom to make learning fun and innovative for her students, and how Mrs. Meucci is a life-long learner who imparts the importance of continuous learning to her students.
"I'm humbled and honored to have been selected as an All Star Teacher," said Mrs. Meucci. "I can't believe the effort it took to put together the conference call that included my students. It made me feel so loved and appreciated."
