Bethel Park High School Students Win 25 Awards At DECA State Conference

Bethel Park High School students earned 25 awards at the DECA State Career Development Conference, which was held in Hershey, PA, February 19-21, including five First Place Awards, seven Second Place Awards, two Third Place Awards, two Fourth Place Awards, three Fifth Place Awards, three Sixth Place Awards and three Medallion Awards.

      
Students who finished in First through Fourth Places qualified to compete at the DECA International Conference, which will be held in Nashville in May.
     
Earning First Place Awards and qualifying for the International Conference were seniors Gabrielle Dunn (Independent Business Plan), Sarah Gilliam (Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research), Caleb Shook (Human Resources Management), and Alyssa Sholder and Riley Evans (Sales Project).
      
Also earning a First Place Award in an event that does not compete at Internationals was senior Riley Evans (Female Model).
      
Receiving Second Place Awards were seniors Marissa Christenson and Hunter Dorfner (Community Awareness Project), and Olivia Greene (Business Services Operations Research); juniors Lucia Coccagno (Sports and Entertainment Operations Research), Summer Lewis and Leigha Piazzi (Career Development Project), Nick Massari, Ryan Puskar and Lianna Robbins (Business Solutions), Christian McClaine (Restaurant and Food Service Management); and freshmen Emma Bucheli and Marena Chernicky (Financial Literacy Project).
      
Third Place Awards were won by senior Jenna Chernicky and junior Michael Conroy (Community Giving); and juniors Jake Schweitzer and Raffaele Zallo (Integrated Marketing Campaign Event).
      
Fourth Place Awards were earned by seniors Josh Capristo and Will Patrizio (Buying and Merchandising Operations Research); and senior Brian Torles and junior Morgan Beardsley (Financial Operations Research).
      
Earning Fifth Place Awards were senior Jacob Marzina and juniors Tyler Chorba and Jake Cook (Sports and Entertainment Operations Research); and sophomores Aletris Eckert, Chloe McDaniel and Caitlyn Schultz (Hospitality and Tourism Operations), and Abby Quickel, Sandra Soltes and Kate Sullivan (Integrated Marketing Campaign Product).
      
Sixth Place was earned by seniors Markus McKittrick and Jake Pauley (Buying and Merchandising Operations Research); and juniors Julia Casaldi, Amber Simeone and Mikayla Yee (Business Services Operations Research), and Lexi Seese (Franchise Business Plan).
      
Medallion Awards were presented to three students who earned one of the top three scores in their event for either the Test, Role Play A and/or Role Play B.  Medallion Awardees were seniors Caleb Shook (Human Resources Management Test and Role Play) and Christian McClaine (Restaurant and Food Service Management Test and Role Play), and sophomore Isabel Burke (Integrated Marketing Campaign Test).
     
Additionally, senior Mark Vighetti presided over the conference as the 2019-2020 PA DECA District III Representative, and junior Lucia Coccagno was installed as a 2020-2021 DECA PA State Officer, serving as PA DECA District III Representative.
      
The students were prepared for this competition by Bethel Park High School Marketing Teachers Emily Smoller and Maria Christenson.
