During the celebration, the White House unveiled new bunny costumes, received commemorative eggs and hosted 30,000 visitors to participate in the roll and other education-themed activities.

"Today we hope you learn, explore and grow by listening to a story, rolling some eggs, playing with circuit boards or building some robots," the first lady said in opening remarks. "And most of all, having fun."

APRIL IS AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH

April is known for its spring flowers, a small golf tournament in Georgia, several significant holidays, and Autism Acceptance Month. This April, autism rights groups have asked schools and the media to focus on including and accepting those with different neurologies. This starts with the small but significant change from Autism Awareness to Autism Acceptance. Bethel Park School District is proud to honor that request, and several of its teachers are leading lessons and activities that have already made that shift.

  • Neil Armstrong Middle School students created a bulletin board for Autism Acceptance Week.

  • In recognition of Autism Acceptance Month, students in Ms. Kristen Kincak's Periods 5 and 7 classes have created an Autism Acceptance bulletin board filled with color-coded puzzle pieces asking specific questions about themselves.

Ms. Kincak said that BPHS students who bring books they've checked out of the Bethel Park Public Library, especially those that deal with autism-related issues, with their brand new library cards would be gifted a free drink to the Bean & Berry beverage shop on the school's first floor.

  • April is Autism Acceptance Month. To celebrate the occasion, today, fifth graders at Neil Armstrong Middle School wore blue for Autism Awareness, while the sixth graders wore red for Autism Acceptance.
