← Back Print This Article

Did you know that senior citizens in Allegheny County may be eligible for additional property tax relief through the Senior Citizen Property Tax Relief Program?

Administered by County Treasurer John Weinstein's office, the program entitles qualified applicants to a 30 percent discount off the country real estate tax on their primary residence.  Once approved, an applicant will continue receiving the tax relief so long as they remain the property owner/occupant and meet the income guidelines.

To qualify, applicants must meet three requirements:

  1. Own and occupy a primary residence in Allegheny County continuously for the past 10 years.
  2. Be age 60 or older for an individual or spouse; Older than 50 for a widow or widower; Older than 18 and permanently disabled.
  3. Gross household income must be less than $30,000 (although 50 percent of Social Security benefits can be excluded).
The deadline to apply each year is June 30.  For more information or to download an application, please click here.
