Two rising Bethel Park High School freshmen won Silver Awards at the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)’s National Leadership Conference, held in Nashville, TN.

Kelly Katilius won a Silver Medal for her project, “Making A Little Light” in the Junior Environmental Ambassador competition.

Alyssa Vetere earned a Silver Medal for her project, “Pumpin’ Veggies Into Kids” in the Junior Food Innovations competition.

Both students qualified for the National competition by winning Gold Awards at the FCCLA State Competition, which was held in April when they were eighth graders at Independence Middle School.

This is Kelly’s second consecutive trip to Nationals. In 2016 she won a Gold Medal at Nationals in the Junior Life Planning Event.

The students were prepared for this competition by Independence Middle School Family Consumer Science Teacher Heather Fontana.
