In an effort to expand communication between the school district and parents, the Bethel Park School District will use the School Messenger Notification Service, which enables the district to send telephone or email messages to parents in a timely and eco-friendly manner to provide you with important information about school events and updates as well as emergencies.
Primarily, we will use School Messenger to notify you of school delays or cancellations due to inclement weather, as well as to remind you about various upcoming events of interest. On school delay or cancellation days, you will receive a phone call as soon as the decision to delay or cancel is made, so you don’t have to watch the local television stations to see Bethel Park’s status scroll up on the screen.
In the event of an emergency at school, you can have peace of mind knowing that you will be informed immediately of the emergency by telephone, rather than relying on your school’s Emergency Telephone Chain.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RECEIVING CALLS SENT THROUGH SCHOOL MESSENGER:
- If you have Caller ID, it will display the school’s main number (412-833-5000) when a general announcement is delivered.
- School Messenger will leave a message on any answering machine or voicemail.
- To replay a message, press the star "*" key.
In an emergency situation, School Messenger has the capability to contact up to four numbers (a primary contact number and three other emergency contact numbers). Only the primary contact number will be called for non-emergency calls, such as school delays/cancellations.
FYI--If you have more than one child and the School Messenger message is for all Bethel Park students, you will only receive one telephone call or email message.
School Messenger has email capabilities that we will also take advantage of throughout the school year to keep you in the loop. You will receive our weekly E-Mail Newsletter via School Messenger as well as other important communication that was previously sent home via letter.
Additionally, because we are using a new system, users may have to check their spam filters the first time they receive the E-Newsletter, because it will be coming to them from a new system and your spam filter may flag it as spam.
If you are not receiving the E-Mail Newsletter via School Messenger, it is because we do not have your primary email address in our data base. Please contact the school secretary of your child’s school to have that information put into our system. If you have children at more than one school, you will have to contact every school office to make sure the information is included for all of your children, to ensure that should your child’s school send out school-specific information, you will receive it. We also encourage you to contact the school office if any of your contact information changes throughout the course of the school year, so we can update our School Messenger data base.
We are pleased to use School Messenger as another tool to improve parent communication and we look forward to having the ability to continue to deliver real time information to you and provide awareness of all of the great events that take place in Bethel Park.
