Sophomore Checklist

August / October

  • See your counselor. Are your course choices challenging?
  • GET INVOLVED! Create a list of activities for semester one.
  • Use Naviance to continue building your resume/scrapbook keeping track of extra-curricular activities, volunteer activities, awards and articles.
  • Consider taking the PSAT/NMSQT on in October.
  • Attend a regional College Fair at your earliest convenience.


November / December

  • Participate in a class with your counselor (via English) to take the Interest Profile from the Naviance Career Program.
  • Schedule a meeting with your counselor to review your Interest Profile from Naviance career that you did in your English Class.


January / February

  • Use Naviance College Search to identify schools and entrance requirements commensurate with your PSAT scores.
  • Make a list of colleges for possible summer visits.


March / April

  • Plan courses for grade 11; keep grade 12 options open by keeping pre-requisites in mind.
  • Use your Naviance College list to compare your proposed schedule with college admission requirements in mind.
  • Use the Naviance College comparison worksheet; schedule an appointment with your counselor. Ask your counselor about summer programs, colleges and universities.


May / June

  • Log on and use the SAT On-Line preparation program.
  • Look for summer opportunities – jobs, internships, or volunteer work.


July / August

  • Visit college campuses.
  • Start a summer reading program. See your teachers and counselor for suggestions.
  • Use SAT On-Line Prep program.
