William Penn is one of five elementary schools in Bethel Park. Approximately 200 students in grades kindergarten through four attend our school. Forty staff members work together to ensure the best educational experience possible for all of our students.

 
* Latest News
Revisions Made to 2009-2010 School Calendar--Please click here to see a revised 2009-2010 school year calendar, which was approved by the Bethel Park Board of School Directors at its February 25, 2010 meeting to make up cancelled school days the week of February 8-12, 2010.  The changes to the calendar include:
  • Students/Staff will make up Monday, February 8 on Thursday, April 1.
  • Students/Staff will make up Tuesday, February 9 on Monday, April 5.
  • Students/Staff will make up Wednesday, February 10 on Tuesday, May 18.  (The Teacher Inservice Day will now be Wednesday, June 9.)
  • Staff will make up Thursday, February 11 with an Inservice Day on Tuesday, June 8.
  • Staff will make up Friday, February 12 with an Inservice Day on Thursday, June 10.

The last day of school remains Friday, June 4 and graduation will still be held on Saturday, June 5.

 
•  Gainar Scholarship Applications Accepted through April 2 -- If you are a Bethel Park High School senior who attended William Penn and have post-graduation plans, you are encouraged to apply for a one-time $1,000 Rosemary Gainar Scholarship.  The deadline to apply is Friday, April 2.  Please click here for an application.  If you have questions, please contact Kelly Albenze at 412-523-7921 or benze301@netzero.net.
 
•  Elementary Teachers to Host Benefit Volleyball Tournament on March 27 -- Teachers from Lincoln, Franklin, Memorial and Washington will host a benefit Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, March 27 in the Independence Middle School auditorium to benefit the "Home Again" program at IMS.  The suggested admission is $3 per family and the games will be played at noon, 1 and 2 PM.  There will be refreshments, a Chinese auction and raffles.  All money raised will help the IMS students and staff to repair and refurbish the home of a local Bethel Park family.  To see photos of last year's Home Again project, please click here.  We hope you can join us for the fun at the Volleyball Tournament!  Camp Invention Returns to NAMS in June--Neil Armstrong will again host Invent Now Kids' Camp Invention, June 21-25 for students entering grades 1-6.  Please click here to learn more about this year's program!

•  H1N1 Update--On October 14, the school district was notified of two test-confirmed cases of H1N1 at Bethel Park High School and confirmed cases have been reported at Neil Armstrong Middle School, Lincoln Elementary School, Memorial Elementary School and Franklin Elementary School.  There have also been several students throughout the district who have exhibited flu-like symptoms and have been diagnosed by their doctors as having H1N1 or H1N1-like symptoms, but their conditions were not officially confirmed via laboratory testing. Please click here to read a letter to all Bethel Park families from Dr. Knight, that outlines what parents can do to help keep their children from getting/spreading H1N1 or other viruses.  If you or any member of your family experience flu-like symptoms, you are encouraged to contact your family physician.  As always, the best defense against communicable disease is proper hand washing. We ask parents to keep their children home if they are exhibiting symptoms or do not feel well. • Parents Can Monitor Their Child's Cafeteria Purchases via PayForIt.net--All Bethel Park cafeterias are using the QSP point of sale system. With this new system, parents will able to log on to see what your child is eating, how much money is in your account and to set up email reminders to let you know when your account is running low.  For more information, please go to the BPSD Food Services web page.
 
Edline Now Available for Parents of 2nd, 3rd and 4th Graders--Parents of 2nd, 3rd and 4th can monitor their child's academic progress electronically via Edline.  Parents are encouraged to go to www.edline.net to activate their child's account to see their child's interim grades posted for Math, Language Arts and Spelling for all three grades, as well as Social Studies for third and fourth graders.  Please contact your school secretary for additional assistance.  Parents who do not have access to the Internet can do so at the Bethel Park Library.  Librarians are available to assist.
 
•  District to use ALERTNOW Notification Service as an additional communication tool between the school district and parents--Please click here to learn how you can stay up to date with what is going on in your child's school electronically via ALERT NOW.
 
Penn Earns Keystone Achievement Award! For the fourth consecutive year, William Penn Elementary School has been awarded the Keystone Achievement Award by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) on the PSSA Exams for two consecutive years.  This year's award is for PSSA Scores in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.  Congratulations to our third and fourth graders and their teachers for their outstanding work on these tests and keep up the good work!  To see the district's PSSA scores for 2008-2009, please click here.
