Independence Middle School students are taking advantage of the hot, fresh pizzas that are delivered to their cafeteria table during lunch periods!
Thanks to the newly-created Whole Pizza Program, a group of eight students can order pizza twice a week, and when they arrive in the cafeteria, the pizza is at their table. For $2.50--the cost of a school lunch--students can get a slice of pizza, fries or a salad, fruit and milk. Their pizza can be customized in either whole cheese, whole pepperoni or half cheese/half pepperoni.
The pizza, milk and sides are already at their seats in the cafeteria, as are plates and silverware, which eliminates the students having to go through the line to get their food. This restaurant-style dining concept was created by Bethel Park Food Service Director Joe Consolmagno, who is also considering some other restaurant-style options for the students.
If students want to take advantage of the Whole Pizza Program, all they have to do is fill out an order form in advance and everything will be set up for them on the next Pizza Delivery Day.
"Wow!" was the phrase of choice by the students when they saw their pizzas ready to eat when they came into the cafeteria.
