BPHS Music Department Earns 19 Awards In Orlando

The Bethel Park High School Music Department earned 19 awards at the 2017 Spring Music Trip to the Festivals of Music at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, including six Superior Ratings, three Excellent Ratings, three Best in Class Awards, three Best Soloist Awards, one Gold Mickey Award, one Silver Mickey Award and one Accompanist Award.

Earning Superior Ratings were the Bethettes, Majorettes, Drum Line, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and the Top 21 Choir in the Chamber Choir category and Jazz Choir category.

Top 21 also received the Gold Mickey Award and Best in Class Award in the Jazz Choir category and the Silver Mickey Award and Best in Class Award in the Chamber Choir category.

Earning Excellent Ratings were the Symphonic Band, Concert Band and Symphonic Orchestra, which also received a Best in Class Award.

Senior Jake Lisak earned two Best Soloist Awards—one for his drum solo as part of the Jazz Ensemble and one for his xylophone solo as part of the Percussion Ensemble. Junior Kathryn Kimes received a Best Soloist Award for her alto saxophone solo with the Jazz Ensemble.

Sophomore Jenelle Wu received the Accompanist Award for her work with Top 21.

The students are taught by Bethel Park High School music teachers Chad Thompson, Stephanie Glover and Todd Kuczawa.
