Bethel Park High School students earned 25 awards and five Medallions at the DECA State Career Development Conference in Hershey, PA.
Earning First Place Awards were seniors Noah Bussard, Carolyn Cook and Chandler Dietz in the Independent Business Plan Event; senior Max Heller and freshman Marissa Christenson (Creative Marketing Plan); juniors Paige Davidson and Valerie Wengryn (Entrepreneurship Promotion Plan); junior Samantha Dunn (Principles of Hospitality and Tourism); juniors Sabrina Tatalias and Tammy Stugan (Business Services Operations Research), and sophomore Alyssa George (Restaurant and Food Service Management).
Seven students earned five Second Place Awards: seniors Cassidy DeLeo (Learn and Earn Project); and Sabrina Locke (Sports and Entertainment Operations Research); senior Josh Poe and sophomores Dalton Moore and Tim Nuss (Hospitality and Tourism Operations Management); junior Karlie Olson (Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling); and freshman Mark Vighetti (Professional Selling).
Earning Third Place Awards were senior Tarush Bahl (Financial Consulting) and juniors Chelsea Hallman (Business Growth Plan), Emma Harris (Financial Operations Research), Audra Kozlowski (Start-Up Business Plan), and Maria Schiller and Delaney Strzyz (Financial Literacy Promotion Plan).
Fourth Place Awards were given to seniors Julia Massari and Kenna Zimmer (Public Relations Plan), senior Rachel McClaine (Human Resources Management), senior Deanna Nagel and sophomore Lexi Schanck (Advertising Campaign); and junior Abby Delbene and sophomore Tyler Andreis (Innovation Plan).
All of the students who earned First through Fourth Place Awards are now eligible to compete at the DECA International Career Development Conference, which will be held in Anaheim, CA in April.
Also earning awards were Fifth Place Winners: junior Emma Beck (Franchise Business Plan); sophomore Diana Brueggman (Business Growth Plan) and sophomores Samantha Huwe and Brenna Manko (Sports and Entertainment Operations Research).
Juniors Gavin Campbell and Mark Kozleuchar earned Sixth Place for their Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan.
Six students earned Medallion Awards, which are presented to those students who earned one of the top three scores in their event for the Test, Role Play A or Role Play B portion of the competition. Medallions were awarded to seniors Tarush Bahl (Financial Consulting Test), Katie Bustamante (Quick Serve Restaurant Management Test) and Rachel McClaine (Human Resources Management Test); junior Samantha Dunn (Principles of Hospitality Test); sophomore Alyssa George (Restaurant and Food Service Management Test, Role Play A and Role Play B); and freshman Sydney Burns (Principles of Business Administration Role Play A).
Additionally, two BPHS DECA members were selected PA DECA State Officers for the 2017-2018 school year. Junior Paige Davidson was elected PA DECA Vice President and sophomore Alyssa George was elected to serve on the PA DECA Executive Board.
