Memorial Elementary Third Grader Andre Abeskharon outspelled 71 other Bethel Park Third Grade Students to win the Fifth Annual Bethel Park Third Grade Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bethel Park.

Andre won this year's Bee by correctly spelling "especially."  Finishing in Second Place was Franklin Third Grader Bryleigh Burke, followed by Franklin Third Grader Caleigh Shannon in Third Place.

For winning this year's Spelling Bee, Andre received a $350 gift card from Toys-R-Us.  Bryleigh received a $200 Toys-R-Us gift card for finishing in Second, and Caleigh earned a $100 Toys-R-Us gift card for her Third Place finish.

It took five rounds of spelling to whittle this year's field from 72 students to the final 25 spellers. It took another four rounds to get down to the final 10 spellers and another two rounds to get to the final three.  It took 10 words to get to the final two.  Then Andre and Bryleigh went back and forth spelling 11 words before Andre correctly spelled "especially" to end this year's Bee, which was held at Neil Armstrong Middle School.

The Spelling Bee is a natural tie-in for the Rotary Club as each year the Club generously donates a copy of A Student's Dictionary to every Bethel Park Third Grade Student.

The District greatly appreciates the support of the Rotary Club and looks forward to the 2018 Spelling Bee!
