Fifth Graders Learn the Fine Art of
Essay Writing
Students in Mrs. Smith's
classroom are learning the intricacies
of
writing an essay and honing their
editing skills to perfect the final
product. They had to write a five
paragraph essay on the subject of how
they would feel if they had to move, and
what three items they would take with
them, if they could choose only three.
They used two different colored pencils
to help them go over their essay, with
the colors helping them to look at their
writing more closely.

Students Design Patch for BP
Firefighters
Sixth graders Rachel Kimberland,
Shelby Garcia and Lauren
Bostedo were recognized by the
Bethel Park Fire Department for their
outstanding designs they submitted for
the Safety Patch Design Contest. Their
designs were submitted last year when
they were fifth graders, and all designs
submitted were on display at the Fire
Station where the fire
fighters had a chance to look over all
of the submissions and eventually pick
which design they would like to have
made into a patch for their uniforms.
Rachel Kimberland's design was named the
winner and her patch design will be worn
on the
firefighters' uniforms. Shelby and
Lauren came in Second and Third Place
respectively. All three girls were
honored at an October 11 program at the
Fire Station, where they were presented
with frames containing their designs and
gift cards for their outstanding
efforts. Congratulations to
everyone who submitted a design! |

Students Learn How to Make Their School
Bully-Free
Neil
Armstrong students started off the year
by accepting the mission of making their
school bully-free. To kick-off the
initiative, grade level assemblies were
held. Students had the opportunity
to share their thoughts about what
bullying is and learned how many
students last school year were
victimized by bullying. The
students also participated in a game
called "Bully or No Bully," where they
were shown brief video clips and had to
decide if the situation was a bully or
no-bully situation. Thanks to
special guests Dr.
Knight, Officer Modrak, Officer
Zinsmeister, Miss O'Rourke, Mrs.
Stocker, Mrs. Sautel, Mrs. Lapcevic, Mr.
Yost and Mr. Cahill for
helping with the game and to the BPHS
Cheerleaders and Black Hawk, who led the
cheer for Neil Armstrong to be
bully-free!

Students were greeted at the door by
Principals Miss O'Rourke and
