Second Graders Have  A PAWSitive Reading Experience

Second Graders in Erin Sweeney's room participated in a PAWSitive Reading Experience, thanks to a recent visit to their classroom from three certified therapy dogs who sat and listened as the second graders read aloud to them.  The students enjoyed reading to a cocker spaniel, golden retriever and a Bernese Mountain  Dog named Yuri, who made his first classroom appearance at Lincoln!

The students finished reading a story called, "Dogs," where they learned about dogs who help people, so the timing was right for the dogs to come in and hear a favorite story from the Lincoln students.  The PAWSitive Reading Experience is organized by Bethel Park High School senior Alyssa Perkins, who thought children could benefit from reading to some good listeners--certified therapy dogs.  Alyssa eventually would like to be a teacher and is hoping to coordinate experiences like this in her teaching as well.
