Pavilion Dedicated in Memory of Mrs. Reid

On August 31, the Bethel Park School District held a dedication ceremony for the Suzanne Reid Memorial Pavilion, constructed in memory of Suzanne Reid, a Music Teacher at IMS who passed away in the spring of 2005.  The pavilion is located behind IMS and will provide a place for outdoor concerts and classroom lessons, as well as a place for staff, students and families to spend a quiet moment.

Speaking at the dedication were IMS Principal Mr. Muench, Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Rose and Music Department Facilitator Mr. Buetzow, who spoke of Mrs. Reid's passion for music and the marks she left on the school district.  She taught music at IMS since 1996, and was the founder and leader of the Independence Ringers, a hand bell choir.  She also worked on the production staff for the Bethel Park High School musicals, where the students fondly referred to her as "Mama Reid."

Several individuals and companies were instrumental in making the pavilion a reality, including Mark Edgar from Mosites Construction; Jim Miller from Washington and Jefferson College, Shannon Hinkle and the students at Steel Center Area Vocational & Technical School; Andy Amrhein from Evey's True Value Hardware; Dave Jennings from Stringert Roofing; Pete Szymanski from L. Robert Kimball & Associates; Dan Kiefer from Massaro Corporation; Coach Mike Milliken and members of the Bethel Park High School Football Team; Tom Murphy and Bethel Park High School student Steve Gaddis, who landscaped around the pavilion for his Eagle Scout Project.

Mr. Muench was one of the speakers at the dedication of the Suzanne Reid Memorial Pavilion.

Assistant Superintendent Nancy Rose addressed the crowd at the pavilion dedication.
Mr. Buetzow shared his memories of Mrs. Reid's work with the BPHS musicals during the dedication ceremony.
The Bethel Park Music Department sang "The Lord Bless and Keep You" at the dedication, and rang chimes in memory of Mrs. Reid.

Members of Mrs. Reid's family were on-hand to participate in the dedication.
