Tigers have distinct hunting techniques. These animals are able to use camouflage and hide in tall grasses. They wait until they are ready, then they pounce. Tigers usually hunt alone. Sometimes they travel twelve miles at night just to find some suitable prey. It sometimes takes 20 tries for tigers to get their prey. Tigers like to eat herbivores such as a Chital, Swamp Deer, wild pigs, etc. There has been a claim by a scientist that he saw two tigers take down an elephant. They smell out their prey, and then close in on them. Tigers get a start at 65 ft from the animal, then, take it down. |

Tigers don’t enjoy eating in the wide open. They feel uncomfortable with a carcass of an animal in the open tundra. The animal usually only lasts about two to three days. Every night 44-77 pounds of an animal are consumed by a tiger. Adult tigers need 15-20 pounds of meat, daily, to survive. They need nearly three tons a year of meat. A tigress living alone will kill every eight days or so. Unlike a mother with cubs. A mother will hunt every five to six days. Some myths and legends say how Tigers use a call imitating the call their prey makes to lure them. When food is scarce, they will eat small rodents and fish. |
