Hawaii had a great history. From 300-750 A.D. the Polynesians arrived from Tahiti by canoe. Then in 1778, British explorer Captain James Cook discovered the Hawaiian Islands and named then the Sandwich Islands after Britain’s Earl of Sandwich, but in 1779, Captain Cook was killed after a dispute at Kealakekua Bay. In 1782, a decade of war was among the leading Hawaiian chiefs began. Then in 1810, King Kamehameha III declared Honolulu a city. Then in 1893, Queen Liliuokalani surrendered the Hawaiian Kingdom to the United States under protest. In 1889 Hawaii was annexed to the U.S., and in 1900 Hawaii became part of the United States territory.

 

 

    

     Hawaii has some great facts about it. Here are some fast facts about Hawaii: its area is 10,932 square miles, and its population is 1,262,840 people. The state capital is Honolulu. The languages that are spoken there are English, Hawaiian, Pidgin, Samoan, and Tongan. Sugar cane and pineapples are Hawaii’s most valuable crops.

 

 

     

     There are tons of things you can do in Hawaii. You could go scuba diving or snorkeling, go on a tour, see a stage show, or go kayaking. You could go surfing, or you could just relax by the beach.

 

 

     

     There are many beaches in Hawaii. Some of the most famous ones are Poipu Beach, Ka’anapali Beach, and Hanalei Bay Beach. There is also Hanauma Bay, and Hamoa Beach. 

 

 

     

     There are many resorts in Hawaii. Some great ones are Turtle Bay Resort in Honolulu. It has almost 5 miles of beachfront. Also there is Diamond Hawaii Maui Resort and Spa. It is in Maui and is 300 feet above the Wailea coastline.

 

 

    

     When you are going to Hawaii, you don’t want to over-pack but you don’t want to under-pack. Here are some things you should definitely pack. You need lots of sunscreen, so you don’t get sunburn. Also bring sandals for when you go on the beach. If you plan on taking a tour or going on a hike, you will need to pack hiking clothes. Also pack a small backpack and a water bottle for tours. You should definitely bring a camera and film so you can take pictures.
