Halo 3

Grunts

Grunts, they rely on their numbers to succeed in the battle. They also rely on the leader of the pack to tell them what to do. So if in fact they are left leaderless they are not as much as a threat as with a leader. Their preferred gun is the plasma pistol.

Prophets

Prophets, they are the political leaders of the covenant army. They are physically tested and are rarely found in battle or even with a gun, but if they are it is a weak gun such as the needler. (shown on the left)

Jackals

Jackals, maybe a little weaker than the other species in the covenant, therefore used for sniping and long range combat. Jackals hold a shield that protects them from shots but can be taken down. There great vision means that they are normally found with a sniper, and the covenant sniper is the beam rifle. If you are trying to snipe them it is very difficult when they are using their shields.

Drones

As you can see in the picture to the left, Drones are the flying specimens in the covenant army. They are usually found in numbers and with weak guns such as the plasma pistol. (shown on the right) They like to attack in streets where they can hang on rooftops.

Brutes

Brutes are the berserkers in the covenant army. In the covenant language their name is Jiralanae. They are normally the leaders of the squad. The gun they are normally found with is the brute shot, shown on the right.

Elites

The Elites, also known as Shangeili, think differently then the rest of the covenant army so they joined the human side. When they were in the covenant army they where the leaders. Their favorite weapon is the energy sword, shown on the right.

Hunters

Hunters, or Jekgelo, are the most powerful species in the covenant army and have impenetrable armor so you must find a way to take off their armor or shoot them in the gaps in their armor. They always travel in pairs so that is why they do not have a preferred gun.
