Double Bass’s can also be called string bass’s, or stand up bass’s. They are usually a lot bigger then a standard bass guitar. The Double bass, unlike the bass guitar, has a large neck. The bodies of most double bass’s are very wide but on some double bass’s, the body is removed. Strings for a double bass are also longer then a bass guitar because the string has to be able to go from the neck all the way to the bottom of a double bass, and since the double bass is taller, the strings are longer. |
| Double bass’s have a bigger sound then bass guitars. They are usually played in orchestras because of that. Standard double bass’s cannot have effects on them, unlike the bass guitar. However, the one big advantage that double bass’s have over bass guitars is that the double bass can be played with a bow, which gives it a different sound that the bass guitar can't have |

The double bass is usually played with the fingers, the bow, or both. The bow can hold the note longer and give it a different sound. Playing the double bass with fingers, or plucking is commonly used when double bass’s play jazz or blues. In orchestra music, the double bass is commonly played by both using the bow and plucking. |
| When playing in an orchestra, double bass’s are usually not played with amplification. However, in cases were the double bass needs to be amplified, it can be done. It can be done by either having the double bass be played into a mike, or having the mike hooked up to the bridge, right next to the strings. Double bass's can also be have a pickup hooked up to it. There are other ways, but this is the most common. |

Famous players of the double bass include Ron Carter, Eberhard Weber, and Rob Dehak. Most of them played mainly jazz. Dr. Art Davis was also a famous player of the double bass. He got his first chance to play in front of many people when one bands bass player left after intermission in the middle of a concert. |
| Double Bass’s have many different ways they can look. The standard look includes a hollow body and a plain wood finish. However, some double bass’s don’t even have the body section. There are even some double bass’s with a colored finish on there body. |
