High jump

There are two basic styles of high jumping: the straddle and the flop. In the straddle the jumper passes over the crossbar facing the ground. in the flop, the jumper clears the crossbar facing up towards the sky. All high jumpers must run to the crossbar with a fast but controlled approach. to be a good high jumper  you need very good arm and leg strength.

Like sprinters, long jumpers have to be fast runners.  Your muscles need to be strong and springy. They have to be able to lift their knees high, pace their runs, time it just right and hit the takeoff board at just the right moment without a loss of speed or power. Long jumpers also need to be somewhat acrobatic and flexible. Long jumpers must have a good spring in their legs and the ability to sail through the air.

 

Triple jump

Many would say the triple jump is the most odd and difficult of all events.  it requires an amazing amount of strength. It takes a very skilled athlete to do the triple jump correctly. Triple jumpers use the sam runway and landing pit as the long jumpers do. the only difference is the takeboard is farther away from the landing pit. This is to give the jumper the room to take a hop and step before the jump. the hop, the step, the jump- those are the three parts of the triple jump.

 

pole vaulting

Pole Vaulting is a very dangerous but very exciting event.  the athlete soars into the air, as high as 18 feet and bends the body over a cross bar. the Vaulter then falls into a soft mat in the landing pit. What does an athlete need to be able to maneuver like that? courage, strength, coordination and dedication to practice.  Pole Vaulters are usually taller then the average height, in very good shape, have fast foot speed, a fine sense of timing, and finally not afraid of the drop from the crossbar to the mat.
