Marvin was born in Washington, D.C. on April 2ng 1939. He was named after his father. His middle name was Pentz. His father was an alcoholic. They often argued. His father was a minister. |

The influence of the church in his early years played a big roll in his music. He had a brother and two sisters. His father was abusive and beat all of them for minor mistakes. His sisters' names were Zeola, and Jeanne. His brother's name was Frankie. |

He quit high school before graduation. Then he joined the air force. After this het met Harvey Fuqua. Marvin looked up to him. Harvey took Marvin to Motown records in Detroit, Michigan. This is how he got started in music. |

Marvin wanted in the studio and in the Gordy family. The Gordy family owned Motown Records. This came true for Marvin he married Barry Gordy's sister Anna. She was 17. They eventually got divorced. He married a few other women in his life. |

Not only was he and excellent solo artist but he proved himself to be an amazing duet partner. HE was in many duets. Some were " Ain't No Mountain High Enough", and "It Takes 2". He did really well with Tami Terrell. They were very well known for their lyricism. |

Marvin died in 1984. The day before his birthday. This happened when he got into an argument with his father. He was high on cocaine. His father was drunk. He then shot Marvin at point blank range over the argument. Marvin died at the age of 44. |
