    During Marvin's career He sang many great songs. One is "Ain't  No Mountain High Enough". He sang this with Tami Terrell. Another Great song is "Lets Get it On". He also had many other hit songs. Motown record label started him. He had 26 albums and 40 hit singles in 20 years. His old producer Harvey Fuqua joined forces with Motown. He began his career as a jazz balladeer but was persuaded to record R&B.

 

    "Ain't no Mountain High Enough is one of his best songs. He sang it with Tami Terrell. It was written by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. It was recorded in 1966. It was inducted in to the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1999.

 

   "Let's Get It On" was another hit song. He re-Wrote it from an older song. IT was recorded in the 1970's. It was recorded in LA, California. It was released August 28th, 1973.   

 

     He moved to Europe. There he produced a very well known album, "Midnight Love". He sold 2 million copies. Then he received a Grammy for best male vocal performance. In 1977, Gaye released the seminal funk single "Got to give it up". It went to #1 on the Pop-R&B charts.

 

     It helped "live at the London Palladium" sell over 2 million copies. Soon after he wasn't doing so well. He became addicted to cocaine. This eventually led to his death. In 1983,the British Group Span day recorded the single "True" as a tribute to Marvin. The Commodores made reference to Marvin in their song "Night Shift". The Violet Femmes also made reference to him in their song "See my Ships". Tina Marie made a song about called " My Dear Mr. Gaye". These were just a few of the song tributes to Marvin.

     Marvin Gaye was put into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Motown issued a tribute album to Marvin in 1995. His daughter had her own recording career in 1992. He also appeared in the Motown 25th Anniversary television special. Marvin was one of the most consistent and enigmatic of the Motown hit makers.
