While some computers may be extremely powerful, they are also quite expensive. Thus, many companies develop economical alternatives. These computers are generally not as powerful as the average gaming rig, but they are cheap. Sometimes they can even be perfect for the casual computer user who only wishes to browse the internet and perhaps read e-mail. |

Inputs allow computers to receive signals from external components. These external components are called peripherals. Peripherals can range from a print, to a camera, and even gaming devices such as joysticks. Essentially, if you’re plugging it into your computer and it transmits data, it’s a peripheral (internet excluded). Economical computers may have a router built into them. |

Most modern computers will often feature some open expansion slots. These expansion slots are called PCI slots. There are various different kinds of PCI slots, and they are identified by number, such as PCIx16. The 16 in PCIx16 means that there are 16 connections that transfer data. There are 2 common types of PCI slots, they are PCIx16, and PCIx1. |

RAM, or random access memory, stores memory from programs. This memory is utilized by games, programs, and other things. Essentially, if it’s a process that leaves a footprint, it’s going to utilize RAM. RAM memory is not permanent, and most memory on RAM will eventually be erased. And permanent memory will be stored on the hard drive. However, a hard drive can become corrupt rather easily (the head that writes data to the hard-drive is less than a hair off of the platter, and if it touches the platter, it will cause a disk read error). |

Economic computers may utilize cheaper CPUs than high end computers. The CPU pictured is an outdated AMD processor. However, it is equivalent in processing power compared to most modern economic CPUs. Intel and AMD both make cheap CPUs, as well as high end processors. |

The actual components on the board can affect the system’s overall performance. Some capacitors use different material than others, and semiconductor materials affect CPU performance. Capacitors use various methods of conduction, and the material used in these components can affect the overall performance of the motherboard. Hence, some companies advertise their motherboards as using specialized capacitors. |
