Marino played College ball at the University of Pittsburgh from the seasons 1979-1982 seasons. He led the Panthers to a Sugar Bowl against Georgia. He also led the Panthers in a 24-17 triumph over WVU in the Backyard Brawl. He threw a game-winning TD pass to tight end John Brown. He was a very good QB. |
| The next season (his Senior year) was a disappointment with regard to the preseason Heisman Trophy. Another disappointment was his National Championship hype. The Panthers lost the Cotton Bowl to Southern Methodist. They had Eric Dickerson and Craig James. They were playing very poorly. |

Although he lost the Heisman race, Marino's Panthers triumphed once again over WVU. Marino threw a late TD drive to win 16-13. It was a very close game and very interesting to see. Now Marino was back to his old self. Some say that best game in the rivalry. |
