How to take care of your hamster, what to feed it, what it should live in, grooming, and how to give it enough exercise.

CAGES

Hamster cages for all breeds must be well ventilated and large enough to house your pet. A 10 gallon fish tank can house up to 4 dwarf hamsters, and about 2 golden hamsters. Some cages offer great features like a slide, toys, and a built in wheel but I prefer to get everything separately

EXERCISE

Hamsters need a lot of exercise. What you will need to do is put toys and furniture into their cage. A wheel can do the trick, but they can become addicted to running on it. Tubes and other attachments are much, much better. Hamster toys- like the hamster ball are super important the hamster health.

 FOOD AND SNACKS

Having food in a hamsters bowl is so, so important. Obviously because your hamster needs to eat, just like you! Just be sure to remove old food!  The commercial food sold in pet stores is to nourish your pet.

These creatures need green vegetables, fruits, bread, yogurt, rice, sunflower seeds, etc. Offer these items in moderation, to much can result in illness.

GROOMING

It may sound silly to groom your pet, but it is surely needed. As shown in the picture this is a hamster brush, mostly for Goldens and teddy bear hamsters. Smaller pets like dwarf hamsters, need smaller brushes. You can use a very soft toothbrush for them. Make sure to groom your pet on a daily basis.

Before you get home with your fuzzy new pet, you must do theses simple things…

  1. Set up the cage according to the directions on the box. pg. 15 hamsters today
