In The Ocarina of Time, Link begins his journey to save Hyrule as a young boy. He lives in the Kokiri Forest with other Kokiri kids. All the other kids have fairies who live with them to protect them. Link is the only one who does not. One day, The Great Deku Tree, the tree who protects the forest, sends Navi the fairy to bring Link back to him. The Great Deku Tree explains to Link that an evil man from the Guerodo Desert, Ganondorf, has placed a curse on him. He goes inside the Deku Tree and kills Gohma, a giant spider, and breaks the curse. Even with Link’s efforts, the Great Deku Tree dies. Before his death, he gives Link the Spiritual Stone of the Forest. This is one of the three Spiritual Stones needed to open the door in the Temple of Time. He travels onto a high mountain top called Death Mountain and meets some friendly creatures called Gorons who give him the Spiritual Stone of Fire after Link kills Dondongo, a giant lizard who lurks in the Goron’s mines. Soon after, Link and Navi head to Zora’s Domain. They meet the Zoras, aquatic allies to the King of Hyrule, then save Princess Ruto who was trapped inside a giant whale named Jabu-Jabu's belly. Princess Ruto gives Link the Spiritual Stone of Water. Link returns to the castle to find Zelda only to find that she and Impa, her body guard, have been driven away by Ganondorf. While speeding away on a horse, Zelda throws the Ocarina of Time to Link. He goes into the Temple of Time, places the three Spiritual Stones on front of the altar, uses the Ocarina of Time to play the Song of Time, and the door that hasn’t been touched for centuries opens. He enters and finds the Master Sword. When he picks it up, he finds himself in a place that he has never been before. A sage is standing in front of him. The sage tells Link that there are six other sages trapped throughout Hyrule. His soul has been trapped for seven years, so he is now seven years older than he was. Now adult Link travels into a dark forest, smoky mountain, a deep lake, a spooky graveyard, a sandy desert, and an ancient temple to rescue the sages. When all the sages are saved, he travels to what seven years ago was Hyrule Castle, but is now Ganondorf's Castle. He defeats Ganondorf, saves Zelda, and peace returns to Hyrule.
