Jumps are an important part of any cheerleading routine. Jumps make a routine fun and exciting. All jumps have three parts: The approach, the jump itself, and the landing. If you have all these three steps down you have a perfect jump.

The technique is most important. Each jump can be approached differently. The three main and most popular jumps are the spread eagle, the herkie, and the pike.

The main and most popular jump is the spread eagle, also known as the toe touch. You do this by first stretching, it is most important to stretch to make sure you don’t pull or injure any body parts. The first move is the approach with arms hands in a high V, then quickly swing your arms around with legs straight out on each side of the body. Then snap you legs back down together for the landing.

The second most popular jump is the pike. You always start off by stretching. After completely stretching you set up. You set with you arms up and together. Then you swing them around in a circle, and jump. The jump is with your legs together, and your head against them with your arms out.

The herkie is a difficult jump. It is named after Lawrence Herkimer, who started the first cheer company. The herkie is when you kick one leg out, and have the other leg tucked behind. You first set, jump, and have your one leg quickly tuck under, and have the other front leg straight out. It is important to be sharp when doing jumps, if not it looks messy.
