Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun. Also known as the red planet, it is about the size of Earth’s core. Many scientists theorize that it has, or had harbored life. It is believed that Mars was once apart of the Asteroid belt that is located between Mars and Jupiter. It is said that there was a comet that knocked an asteroid loose and it fell into orbit as a planet. It is still a fairly new planet. |
Valles Marinaris is the deepest and largest valley in the solar system. It is over 6 times deeper than the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Valles Marinaris takes up over 3/5 of Mar’s surface. Scientists theorize that there was a massive glacier there, and when a massive Solar flare from the sun came, it melted the glacier and created a giant valley. This is now known as Valles Marinaris. |

Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in the solar system. It is over three times bigger than Mt. Everest found here on Earth. This is still an active volcano. This type of volcano is known as a shield volcano, closely related to the volcanoes found in Hawaii. The volcano is so massive that when it erupts, it spews lava so high that it can be seen from space. This volcano’s lava has shaped the land around it over hundreds of millions of years. At the moment the volcano hasn’t erupted in several years. |

Jupiter is the largest planet in our Solar System yet, still much smaller than the Sun. There is a giant red spot on the bottom hemisphere of the planet. What it really is, it’s a giant storm know as The Great Red Spot. This spot is 120 times larger than our planet. One of our satellites has just passed it last year. This planet isn’t solid. It is completely made up of gas, but the gas is so dense. It would crush you if you got too close. |

Jupiter has a storm larger than 10 earths long and 7 earths wide. The Great Red Spot is the name scientists have given it over the years. The Storm is supposedly a massive hurricane, powerful enough to drag in asteroids and passing meteors. |
