The tournament starts around March. It is called March
Madness. Each year there are always upsets or surprises. It’s full of
buzzer beaters and thrillers that go all the way to the end. What makes
it so great is how every year there is a Cinderella, or surprise team,
that upsets a juggernaut. This is one of the main reasons why more
people watch it each year. |

For the past two years, the Florida Gators have won the tournament and taken home the title. They’ve pretty much overpowered every team that they have faced in the tournament. They always get hot at the right time. To the left you can see Corey Brewer, the most versatile player on the team. Whether it comes down to shooting threes or taking it strong to the hoop for a three point play you can count on him. He was a main contributor each year in the tournament.

There is always a Cinderella team in the NCAA
tournament. One of the most memorable Cinderella’s in the past couple
years was George Mason. They have been the biggest surprise in sports
history. Two years ago, they were a 13th seed going into the
tournament as a likely team to lose in the 1st round. There
are 65 teams that make the tournament, they make up four regions of 16
teams. Having said, a 13th seed is one of the worst seeds
possible. George Mason became one of the only teams ever to make it to
the Final Four, semifinals, as a 13th seed. It was hard to
fathom how such a small team could go so far. The Cinderella’s are what
make the game so interesting. |

Other Mid Major teams, small schools, like Bradley have also deserved the nickname of Cinderella. They upset Pitt in the 1st round of the tournament as a 13th seed. Unfortunately, they lost in the next round. You never know when a 14 seed will upset a 3 seed or when a 12 seed will overpower a 5 seed. This is what makes the tournament so great to watch.

Some history on the March Madness is that the first team to win the tournament was the Oregon Ducks back in 1939. Ba ck then, the average attendance was 10,782 fans. This was pretty small compared to today's attendance. Oregon started what would soon be a dream for every team in college basketball. |

One of the most memorable teams was the UCLA Bruins. They were led by coach John Wooden. He was one of the most legendary coaches in the history of college ball. He is also said to be the best coach ever. His coaching style produced 10 national championships in the 1960s and the 1970s. The average attendance was 11,125 people |
| Altogether the
tournament has had its share of greats and Cinderella’s. Together they
make the game so special and that is why the people watch. In 2007, the
average attendance was over 20,000 people, which shows how much the
tournament has grown. The game continues to grow every day.
