Breed History

 They started breeding golden retrievers to get the perfect hunting dog. The Golden is a mix between settlers, Newfoundlands and water spaniels. The Golden was considered a rare breed in 1932. Now it is one of the most popular breeds in the country.

Personality

The Golden Retriever is a very friendly and trust worthy dog. They are always reliable and easy to train. The breed lives to make it’s owner as happy as he is. These things make this dog a great dog to have. Along with all of that the Golden Retriever is a great family pet. Goldens love to be with people and are not happy when isolated from a group. They are by nature working dogs that need a lot of exercise. So a daily walk or jog would be perfect. Swimming is also a favorite past time for Goldens.

Nutrition

Nutrition is a very important for having a healthy dog. There are certain requirements when you get a puppy like it has to be fed by the mother for the first 2 months. After that they should be fed puppy food. Puppies need balance in their diet. Adults on the other hand can be more lenient with their feeding. Most adult dogs benefit with easily digested ingredients. You should also buy the same kind of food every time. When your pet gets older it’s metabolism slows meaning you shouldn’t give it as much food.

Socialization

SocializationYou want to experience your puppy to every situation it will encounter. The puppy should ride in elevators, buses, subways and it should walk on beaches. Along with noisy parades and different kinds of people. This makes your puppy learn how to react and act towards all situations.

Body

The normal weight for a Golden is 55-75 pounds. They also have different color coats. Some tend to be blonder and some tend to have a darker reddish tone to them, They have a very thick and long coat, which needs to be brushed at least 3 times a week in order to keep it nice and non-matted.  Since the Golden Retriever has so much hair (because of its undercoat) they shed a lot and brushing keeps shedding low.
