Acting and Musical Theater

You may have gone to plays and wondered how the actors do it all… but have you ever thought about every thing everyone does backstage?

Creating the scene is one very necessary job in a theater everything must be in place onstage in the correct place in order for the play to run smoothly.

A stage manager is probably the most important jobs in the theater, yes even more important then the actors. The stage manager is in charge of everything that is technical or moved by the crew. From lighting to the set the stage manager is part of everything

The set designs are quite intersecting to watch be built. First, the designer must build a model; this must be as detailed as possible. Then, the real set is built derived from the model.

So, I bet you’re still wondering what the actors must do in order to put a show on. First, the actors have read-throughs where they first start going through the script.

After that the actors start Blocking. Where their director calls shots, here they will use stage directions. Did you notice that stage right and stage left are the actor’s right and left not the house’s.

Its time for dress rehearsal, tech rehearsal, or maybe the big night itself, when getting ready there are a few things you need to know. Before whatever you’re doing (whether it’s a rehearsal of a show) you will have a designated area to gat dressed, put your make-up on; make sure it is kept neat! Not only will keeping your area neat help you be on stage on time, but in you are sharing you area with a partner or partners it would be un fair to them  to have you costumes and other personal items scattered around the room.
