| Kennywood Park goes far back into history. In the year 1818, Charles K. Kenny bought 141 acres of land. He called this place Kenny’s grove, and it included 10 shillings 6 pence, and a barrel full of whiskey. In 1898, the land was bought from Anthony Kenny, who is Charles K. Kenny’s grandson. The Monongahela Street Railway, bought it to build a trolley park. A man by the name of Andrew Mellon was the one who came up with the name Kennywood. During summer and fall, a house was put up to hold a restaurant and merry-go-round. The park Kennywood was originally going to be a 3 ft. deep, man made pond. It was also going to include a dance pavilion, casino, and merry-go-round. |

The Merry-go-Round was the first ride to come to Kennywood. It was built in 1898 and is still located in the park today. This ride can be enjoyed by all ages, and it has always been like that. |

Kennywood held its first parade in 1950, and was the Fall Fantasy Parade. It was used to make more money during the low season. The parade was originally only going to be used once, but is now another tradition of the park. |

Where what is now called “Lost Kennywood” was once an enormous swimming pool. It was built in 1925, cost $150,000 to make, and 2,250,000 gallons of water to fill! There was also a dressing room to get changed in and out of your bathing suits. To top all this off, there was a diving board and on three sides of the pool, the ground was covered in sand, to give the pool a beach look. |

Entertainment began not too long ago, to attract more people to the park. There are magic acts, singing, and during the summer time, a diving show. It attracts much attention and is a fun thing too watch while perhaps, taking a break and eating. |

The bridge just below where the sky coaster is, has been at the same spot ever since it was at Kennywood. It goes over the water where boats float around, and has been remodeled many times in its life. |

Some people say that Potato Patch might be half the reason people go to Kennywood. This is one of the best food places, but is not located in much area’s besides the park. Its easy to enjoy the delicious food provided by them. |
