Phil Esposito

Phil Esposito was born on February 20, 1942 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.  He played for the Chicago Black Hawks, Boston Bruins, and New York Rangers.  He played center and was the first player to reach 100 points in a season.  He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984.

 

Wayne Gretzky

Born on January 26, 1961 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada was Wayne Gretzky.  He is the all- time leader in points, goals, and assists.  He played in two professional leagues, the WHL and NHL.  Over the course of both leagues, he played for the Indianapolis Racers, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and New York Rangers.

 

 

Gordie Howe

Nicknamed Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe was born on March 31, 1928, in Floral, Saskatchewan, Canada.  He played for 26 years!  He played for the Detroit Red Wings, Houston Aeros, New England, and Hartford Whalers.  Gordie was in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972.  He was still playing at age 52.  He is now second in points, goals, and assists because of Wayne Gretzky. 

 

 

Bobby Hull

Bobby Hull was born on January 3, 1939 in Pointe Anne, Ontario, Canada.  He got into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983.  He played for the Chicago Black Hawks, Winnipeg Jets, and Hartford Whalers.  He was nicknamed, “Golden Jet” because of his speed and his blond hair.  Oh his family’s farm growing up, his job was to cut wood.  Because of doing that everyday, his biceps were 17.5 inches.

   

Brett Hull

Born on August 9, 1964 in Belleview, Ontario, Canada was Brett Hull.  Son of Bobby Hull (above).  He played for Calgary, St. Louis, and Detroit.  His nickname was “Golden Brett”.  He has one of the best shots in the game.

 

Mario Lemieux

On October 5, 1965 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada a legend was born.  Mario Lemieux was is French and Lemieux in French means the best.  He wore number 66 and played for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  He has the highest goals per game of an average of 0.823.  He now settles in a home in Sewickley with three kids and is a part owner of the Penguins.

 
 

 

Bobby Orr

From Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada, Bobby Orr was probably the most offensive defenseman in history.  Born on March 20, 1948, Orr was always on the ice during games.  People would expect to see him for 65% of the game on the ice. After Bobby Hull got hit by Orr he said it was like a truck just hit him.  He played for the Boston Bruins and Chicago Black Hawks and wore number 4.

 

Maurice “Rocket” Richard

Maurice Richard was born on August 4, 1921 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  He played for the Montreal Canadians from 1942- 1960.  He never liked losing, he only accepted winning.  He was very tough and rough.  He had a temper, too.  One time, he slashed a Boston Bruin and then slugged one of the officials.

 

 

Stan Mikita

Inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983, standing at 5’ 9” 170 lbs, Stan Mikita. He was born in Czechoslovakia on May 20, 1940.  He is very tough including he did 100 push ups a day as a child.  He got picked on at school, so he used his strength to beat kids up.  He moved to Canada when he was 8.  He played for the Chicago Black Hawks from 1959- 1980.  He got scouted by playing Juniors when he was only 13.

 

Jaromir Jagr

He was from Czechoslovakia and was born on February 15, 1972.  He had won two Stanley Cups.  He wears number 68 and his name is Jaromir Jagr.  He is now currently captain of the New York Rangers.  In his career he has played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, and New York Rangers.  His old nickname was Mario Jr.
