Cheerleading

Stunting is one of the most exciting parts of cheerleading.  Each person has a specific position and role whiling stunting.  First, is the flyer.  This is the person you see flying through the air.  Second, are the bases.  They toss, hold, and support the flyer.  Third, is the back spot.  This person spots and ensures the safety of the stunt.

A thigh stand is one of the simplest stunts of all.  The flyer stands on the two bases thighs.  To dismount, the flyer steps off the bases thighs and onto the ground.

An elevator is another simple stunt.  The flyer is standing on the bases hands at shoulder level.  After you nail this stunt, you can do so may others

An extension is just like an elevator expect higher.  The flyer still stands on the bases hands, but this time the bases’ arms are extended above their heads.  You can do a straight-up extension or a press-up extension.  A straight-up is when you go from the ground straight up to the extension.  A press-up is when you go from and elevator and press up to an extension.

A liberty is a one-legged stunt.  People most likely call them a lib.  You can do liberties at elevator or extension level.  The flyer has one foot in the main base’s hand and the other bent to her knee.  Once you get this stunt you can do many other one-legged stunts.

This is a heel stretch.  The flyer once again is standing on one leg.  The other leg is stretched up and grabbed by one of the hands at the heel.  The flyer is up in an extension during this stunt.

This is called a scorpion.  They call it a scorp for short.  The flyer is standing on one leg and holding the other behind her head with her hands holding the foot.  She can be in an elevator or an extension.

This is a basket toss.  You can do a toe-touch, straight ride, layout, ball, x-out, or twist down.  The bases and the back spot throw the flyer up in the air and she does the trick and comes back down into a cradle.  These can only be done on mats.  You cannot do them at basketball or football games.

Dismounting is when you come down from a stunt.  There are many different ways to dismount.  One is a cradle.  The stunt group throws the flyer up from whatever stunt she is in and then they catch her.  Another way is a bump down.  All you do is come down the same way you want up.
